Hazardous location portable service pit fixtures are designed for lighting systems in commercial automotive service pits. These luminaries come with Class I, Division 2 hazardous area ratings to reduce fire hazard risks and prevent devastating explosions. An explosion proof mechanism that contains sparks and ignitions inside the unit prevents such activities from propagating outside the luminary, where it can cause a deadly chain reaction of explosions or fires.

Class I, Division 2 portable hazardous area fixtures are applicable to (but not limited to) minor repair garages without adequate ventilation (National Electric Code [NEC], Article 511.3).
