For forklift operations in flammable work sites, promoting safety starts with using Type EE or EX forklifts.
Compared to conventional forklifts, these vessels are designed for use in classified, hazardous locations. Type EE is suitable for Division 2 facilities, while Type EX is ideal for Division 1 sites.
As a reminder, Division 2 refers to the irregular presence of volatile gases, vapors or dust – usually during abnormal conditions, such as leaks, equipment failure and etc. Division 1 refers to thepersistent presence of flammable gases, vapors or dust in everyday operations.
*** Note: Type EE forklifts should not be used in Division 1 facilities, due to lack of protective mechanisms for flammable compounds in the atmosphere. Type EX forklifts can be used in both Division 1 and Division 2 sites (with the applicable Class). ***
