Made in Texas

The Larson Electronics EPL-FL1524-LED-50-HR Hazardous Area LED Work light with cord reel is F.M. approved Class 1 Division 1 & 2. With a 2 foot long 15 watt LED tube lamp, this hazardous location light provides higher quality light than higher wattage incandescent lights and more light than previous fluorescent lamp equipped models. This light is suitable for exposure to vapors and dusts and ideal for use in paint spray booth inspections or as general portable lighting in confined spaces like fuel tanks or grain storage areas.

***PLEASE NOTE: ANY FREE SHIPPING OFFERS DO NOT APPLY TO THIS HAZARDOUS LOCATION LIGHT FIXTURE***

This 2 foot long, 15 watt, explosion proof LED work light comes complete with an explosion proof cord reel housing 50 feet of explosion proof cord for convenient operation and easy cord management. This hazardous location area light features a rugged, non-sparking aluminum casing and unique rod cage and produces cool, glare-free, shadowless light that improves safety in hazardous locations and maximizes lighting efficiency with built-in metal reflectors. These LED lights improve on the desirable qualities of similar fluorescent models with higher output and better light quality and are ideal for paint booth applications, storage container inspections and applications involving confined spaces such as tank cleaning and industrial container maintenance.

The non sparking reel contains this unit’s 50 feet of SOOW cord for convenient cord management. This explosion proof reel and LED hand lamp can be installed and used within the hazardous location area, making it ideal for hazardous work areas where a ready source of easily managed lighting is desired. The high light output, easy operation, good light color and evenness of coverage makes these lights ideal for a wide variety of close quarter work and inspection activities.

The 15-watt LED lamp used in this unit provides as much illumination as higher-wattage incandescent lamps without the associated heat, reducing the chances of accidents or burns. This lamp has no ballast, which reduces lamp weight, an impact resistant tube shield with specially designed annealed glass, and an aluminum hook for easy overhead mounting. The 50 foot long Class 1, Division 1 rated SOOW 16/3 AWG cord and explosion proof slip-ring housing help this unit to achieve approval for use in environments containing flammable vapors and combustible dusts.

05/31/12What is Explosion Proof Lighting?

At the basic level, explosion proof lighting is equipment designed to prevent the ignition of flammable or explosive materials, gases, or vapors. Lighting is one of the most commonly encountered electrical devices in any type of workplace and the types of lighting used can range from high power permanent fixtures to a common flashlight used for portable illumination. Every type of light used in a hazardous location must be explosion proof certified regardless of its size or type. Since lighting [...]

05/21/12NEMA Enclosure Ratings Basics for Electrical Equipment

NEMA ratings are guidelines published by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association intended to provide a homogenous system of rating electrical enclosures according to their various design parameters. NEMA ratings encompass a wide area of subjects such as protection against contact with internal parts, resistance to internal contamination from fluids, resistance to icing and external damage, and the enclosures suitability for use in various environments. 01/09/12LED Mine Lighting and Worker Safety

Utilizing controlled tests involving standard mining cap lights, common commercial grade LEDs, and a special LED mining light design of their own making, they found that for most intents and purposes, LEDs provided a greater degree of contrast and improved threat detection times as shown by test subjects. Particularly in the case of workers over the age of 40, with 43 years being the average age of mine workers, contrasting of LED illuminated objects was improved 43%. Additionally, threat detect [...]

10/05/11Modern Mining Lights: From Birds to Flames to LEDs

It wouldn’t be until 1902 that practical electrical lamps were introduced in mines and removed the need for open flames. Electrical lamps greatly reduced the possibility of fires and explosions, but again, by today’s standards they were hardly safe. Early electric lamps got hot, the batteries were unwieldy and leaked acids, and shattered bulbs and shorted wires were all too capable of causing an accident. By the 1930’s electric lighting was the only mine lighting in use, although the older Davy [...]

09/21/11IECex/ATEX and North American NEC HAZLOC Equipment Classification

North America is presently not operating with the IECex/ATEX schemes although some effort has been made to produce some homogenity between North American and European Standards, most notably the US and Canada's adoption of a Zone system (NEC 505) modeled after European Schemes. However, despite the great similarity between North American and European Zone systems, they are not identical and are not interchangeable. [...]

08/03/11Hazardous Locations: Collapse the Triangle and Prevent Ignition

With hazardous locations, it is rarely easy or practical to remove either oxygen or fuel. This is because it is impossible to operate an oxygen free environment, and the very compounds that are present are the very part of the industrial process. Thus, removing heat, or rather the source of ignition becomes the primary target for practicing prevention. Indeed, when incidents arise, it is often determined that “inadvertent ignition” had taken place. So, it is then important to identify and unders [...]

02/06/11LED Fluorescent Tube Fixtures: Efficiency Beyond Lumens vs Watts

LEDs retain several distinct advantages over fluorescent lamps. LEDs do not require any ballast for their operation. Using entirely solid state electronics, the current and output of LEDs can be easily regulated and maintained. There is no initial startup or warm up period normally associated with ballast equipped luminaries. [...]

01/04/11Modern Military Spotlights: Versatile Lightweight Power

Rechargeable spotlights and flashlights have become an increasingly important part of military operations. As recently as ten years ago military personnel in the field were forced to rely on personal lighting equipment that had very short operational times due to high energy consumption. This required the further addition of up to twenty pounds of batteries to keep them operational during a full mission deployment of ten days. [...]

12/16/10Infrared Light and CCD Based Digital Cameras

When most of us think of night vision devices we usually picture the elaborate electronic headgear or special cameras used by military personnel. We usually assume the technology is complicated and the price exorbitant and so we also assume that attractive as being able to see in the dark may be, its beyond the realm of us mere mortals. [...]

12/16/10How Do You Know If a Light is really Explosion Proof?

Hazardous location lighting equipment is in the simplest explanation used in places where concentrations of volatile gases, flammable dust or particulates, or flammable chemicals are high enough to present a danger of ignition that can lead to explosion or fire. [...]

10/05/10LEDs: Realizing the Trouble Lights True Potential

If youve ever worked underneath a vehicle or had to repair equipment in a confined space, then you have probably at one time or another used a classic trouble light. For the uninitiated, trouble lights are those lights you often see hanging from reels or coiled up in a corner of your local mechanics shop. They are usually nothing more exotic than a long electrical cord, at the end of which is attached a handle with a reflector and bulb on the end. [...]

08/02/10Confined Space Lighting for Hazardous Locations

Confined spaces represent some of the most dangerous work places in commercial industries. Because of their enclosed nature confined spaces are poorly ventilated and allow volatile gases, fumes, vapors, and particulates to accumulate and increase in atmospheric density to potentially explosive levels. Confined spaces represent a hazardous work area and are loosely defined by a few general characteristics. [...]
