Wiring and Plug: This explosion proof drop light is equipped with 100 foot of 14/3 chemical and abrasion resistant SOOW cord that is fitted with an industrial grade cord cap for easy connection to common wall outlets. Plug options include standard 5-15 15 amp straight blade plug for 110V wall outlets with ground, standard 6-15 15 amp straight blade plug for 220-240V wall outlets with ground, NEMA L5-15 15 amp twist lock plug for 125V twist lock outlets, NEMA L6-15 15 amp twist lock plug for 240V twist lock outlets, British BS1363 13 amp fused 3-blade plug for United Kingdom outlets, or a two pin 16 amp rated Schuko plug with ground contact and socket for European outlets up to 250V. Alternatively, we can provide flying leads with no plug for hard wire applications or for operators who prefer to wire in user provided cord caps. Please choose pigtail option below for flying leads with no plug.

This explosion proof hand light operates on 24 Volts AC or DC. This is not an "inline transformer" unit, and the operator will need a 24V low voltage power source to run this light or transformer system like our TX-500VA-4XA0 with 4 low voltage outlets.

02/20/16Voltage Drop in Low Voltage Lighting Systems

Because of the risks associated with flammable gases, dusts, and particles in hazardous work areas, low voltage lighting systems are a natural choice to increase safety in areas where the potential for combustion exists. This becomes especially challenging when lights must be run at long distances with limited power sources. Low voltage systems typically run on 12-24 volts DC, but even within this lower range, a precise balance between distance, wattage load, and correct wire gauge must be [...]

02/10/16Benefits and Applications of Explosion Proof LED Lighting in Confined Spaces

The complex and hazardous nature of confined spaces present numerous risks for workers. Because of this, many businesses that operate in hazardous locations make use of explosion proof lights to prevent the ignition of flammable gases and dust particles. LED technology has contributed to the features of explosion proof lights by making them more reliable, sturdy and cost-effective. [...]

01/28/14The Future of Lighting: No More Lamp Servicing or Maintenance?

While on the one hand we are seeing a shift towards an integrated LED lamp/fixture modality, there does exist the potential for a “modular” approach to LED manufacture. This sounds contradictory, but let us explain in a little more detail. While an integrated LED/fixture design is indeed the probable route of future lighting design, the actual totality of an LED based luminaire is based on a combination of several distinct parts or “modules”. LEDs themselves are only represented by the “chip”; t [...]

09/05/13Basics of Hazardous Location Confined Space Lighting

The terms explosion proof and intrinsically safe refer to different types of electrical equipment which have been designed specifically to be used in locations where potential flammable or explosive atmospheres are present. Explosion proof equipment is generally higher powered and designed to prevent any ignitions within the lamp from igniting the atmosphere outside the lamp. Foe example, if gases enter into the lamp housing and are ignited by a spark, the lamp contains the ignited gases long e [...]

09/21/11IECex/ATEX and North American NEC HAZLOC Equipment Classification

North America is presently not operating with the IECex/ATEX schemes although some effort has been made to produce some homogenity between North American and European Standards, most notably the US and Canada's adoption of a Zone system (NEC 505) modeled after European Schemes. However, despite the great similarity between North American and European Zone systems, they are not identical and are not interchangeable. [...]

02/06/11LED Fluorescent Tube Fixtures: Efficiency Beyond Lumens vs Watts

LEDs retain several distinct advantages over fluorescent lamps. LEDs do not require any ballast for their operation. Using entirely solid state electronics, the current and output of LEDs can be easily regulated and maintained. There is no initial startup or warm up period normally associated with ballast equipped luminaries. [...]

01/04/11Modern Military Spotlights: Versatile Lightweight Power

Rechargeable spotlights and flashlights have become an increasingly important part of military operations. As recently as ten years ago military personnel in the field were forced to rely on personal lighting equipment that had very short operational times due to high energy consumption. This required the further addition of up to twenty pounds of batteries to keep them operational during a full mission deployment of ten days. [...]

12/16/10How Do You Know If a Light is really Explosion Proof?

Hazardous location lighting equipment is in the simplest explanation used in places where concentrations of volatile gases, flammable dust or particulates, or flammable chemicals are high enough to present a danger of ignition that can lead to explosion or fire. [...]

10/05/10LEDs: Realizing the Trouble Lights True Potential

If youve ever worked underneath a vehicle or had to repair equipment in a confined space, then you have probably at one time or another used a classic trouble light. For the uninitiated, trouble lights are those lights you often see hanging from reels or coiled up in a corner of your local mechanics shop. They are usually nothing more exotic than a long electrical cord, at the end of which is attached a handle with a reflector and bulb on the end. [...]

08/02/10Confined Space Lighting for Hazardous Locations

Confined spaces represent some of the most dangerous work places in commercial industries. Because of their enclosed nature confined spaces are poorly ventilated and allow volatile gases, fumes, vapors, and particulates to accumulate and increase in atmospheric density to potentially explosive levels. Confined spaces represent a hazardous work area and are loosely defined by a few general characteristics. [...]
