26W Low Voltage (12 volt) Explosion Proof Fluorescent Hand Lamp (Drop Light) with Inline Transformer
Part # EPLFL-26W-P-12VI-100 Price:
Made in the USA
The Larson Electronics EPLFL-26W-P-12VI-100 Hazardous Area Fluorescent Work light is U.L. approved Class 1 Division1 Groups C and D and is ideal for close quarter work and inspection activities in hazardous locations requiring explosion proof protection.
This 120VAC to 12 VDC-26 watt explosion proof fluorescent work light from Larson Electronics produces 1800 lumens of fluorescent illumination and comes complete with 100 feet of explosion proof cord, an inline step down transformer, and a straight blade plug. The EPLFL-26W-P-12VI-100 fluorescent drop light uses a compact fluorescent bulb and the lamp body is constructed of high strength plastic and aluminum which helps to reduce weight and improve durability. This hazardous location hand lamp is Class 1, Division 1 and Class 2 Division 1 hazardous location environment approved. An inline step down transformer reduces the 120 VAC input to 12 volts DC. The 100 foot SOOW cord carries the 12 volts to the explosion proof hand lamp. The inline transformer is encapsulated in a Nema compliant enclosure with an aluminum handle for portability.

This 26 watt fluorescent light operates on 120 Volt current that is stepped down by an inline transformer to 12 Volts and is suitable for use in areas where petrochemical vapors and various dusts are present. The lamp creates 1,800 lumens of light, roughly equivalent to a 100 watt incandescent bulb as estimated by Sylvania. The bulb is backed with a white reflector which is designed to keep the light out of the operator`s eyes and focus more of the light on the subject area. Fluorescent lights are popular in paint prep, painting and post-paint inspection operations due to the even white color light produced.
Incandescent lights tend to create yellowish, shadowy light that confuses the eye and makes it difficult to examine a work area with consistency. The light output, color and evenness of coverage make fluorescent lights popular for a wide variety of close quarter work and inspection activities.
This explosion proof hand lamp is relatively easy to relamp. Set screws hold the 2 piece plastic cover in place over the aluminum core. Once the plastic covers are unscrewed, the bulb is revealed. The bulb is encapsulated within a glass dome, which is enveloped by the plastic outer housing. An aluminum ring is screwed into place over the lip of the dome and a o-ring style gasket ensures the seal. Once the glass dome and seal are removed, the operator can replace the 4-pin compact fluorescent bulb.

Combustible Dust: Fire and Explosion Prevention Requires a Comprehensive Approach
The dangers of combustible dusts range from minor fires that can disrupt operations and potentially injure workers, to major explosions and conflagrations where entire facilities and surrounding properties are damaged or destroyed and fatalities occur. Since 1980 there have been at least 350 combustible dust explosions in the US, and some media reports put that number higher, with an average of 10 occurring every week. [...]
IECex/ATEX and North American NEC HAZLOC Equipment Classification
North America is presently not operating with the IECex/ATEX schemes although some effort has been made to produce some homogenity between North American and European Standards, most notably the US and Canada's adoption of a Zone system (NEC 505) modeled after European Schemes. However, despite the great similarity between North American and European Zone systems, they are not identical and are not interchangeable.
LED Fluorescent Tube Fixtures: Efficiency Beyond Lumens vs Watts
LEDs retain several distinct advantages over fluorescent lamps. LEDs do not require any ballast for their operation. Using entirely solid state electronics, the current and output of LEDs can be easily regulated and maintained. There is no initial startup or warm up period normally associated with ballast equipped luminaries. [...]
Modern Military Spotlights: Versatile Lightweight Power
Rechargeable spotlights and flashlights have become an increasingly important part of military operations. As recently as ten years ago military personnel in the field were forced to rely on personal lighting equipment that had very short operational times due to high energy consumption. This required the further addition of up to twenty pounds of batteries to keep them operational during a full mission deployment of ten days. [...]
How Do You Know If a Light is really Explosion Proof?
Hazardous location lighting equipment is in the simplest explanation used in places where concentrations of volatile gases, flammable dust or particulates, or flammable chemicals are high enough to present a danger of ignition that can lead to explosion or fire. [...]
LEDs: Realizing the Trouble Lights True Potential
If youve ever worked underneath a vehicle or had to repair equipment in a confined space, then you have probably at one time or another used a classic trouble light. For the uninitiated, trouble lights are those lights you often see hanging from reels or coiled up in a corner of your local mechanics shop. They are usually nothing more exotic than a long electrical cord, at the end of which is attached a handle with a reflector and bulb on the end. [...]
Confined Space Lighting for Hazardous Locations
Confined spaces represent some of the most dangerous work places in commercial industries. Because of their enclosed nature confined spaces are poorly ventilated and allow volatile gases, fumes, vapors, and particulates to accumulate and increase in atmospheric density to potentially explosive levels. Confined spaces represent a hazardous work area and are loosely defined by a few general characteristics. [...]
