Class 1, Division 1 Refinery Lanterns are portable luminaries suitable for illuminating spaces in hazardous locations, which includes mining sites, oil refineries, chemical processing plants and other classified areas where flammable gases and flammable liquid-produced vapors may exist. These units are designed to contain deadly ignitions and sparks within the luminary, where it cannot interact with volatile substances around the hazardous location.

Class I, Division 1 refinery lanterns are powered by disposable or rechargeable batteries (depending on the model). The luminaries are capable of emitting light beams as far as 200 feet, with help from oversized reflectors around the bulb or chip (for LEDs). Some hazardous location refinery lanterns in this category are reinforced with waterproof protection and may float on water. This increases its usability and versatility in rough work environments, such as confined spaces, and during cleaning sessions or detailed inspections.
