Security cameras require light in order to produce clear images during surveillance. This can be a serious problem for crimes that occur at night. In most cases, background lighting from the street or adjacent room is not enough to support such systems; and the absence of sunlight greatly reduces the camera’s efficiency under low light conditions. [...]

01/16/17 Color Temperatures of LED Light that Attract Bugs

Previously, it was believed that LEDs do not attract bugs during nighttime operations. But now, new sources suggest that insects are drawn to LEDs, with emphasis on specific wavelengths and color temperatures. [...]

01/16/17 Defining Daylight White

When optimizing lighting conditions for a specific location, one must take intensity and light color into consideration. One of these options is daylight white, or the natural lighting conditions of outdoor environments during a sunny day. [...]

01/12/17 Addressing Issues with LED Floodlights and Backlighting

Floodlights are used to illuminate large locations, such as fields, gardens and remote work sites. In residential areas, they are utilized for security or perimeter lighting around a home. Because of this, the lights push out wide, intense beams in order to cover as much space as possible. [...]

01/11/17 How to Project Large Images on Buildings

With the rise of advanced imaging machines, businesses are treated to new outdoor advertising methods that were previously unfathomable. One of these techniques involves the use of commercial projectors to display large images on buildings. Image projections are typically deployed when promoting upbeat product launches, savvy promotions and the release of movies. [...]

01/10/17 Replacing Pool Lights with LED RGB Lights

The most common type of LED RGB pool light available in the market today is the Parabolic Aluminized Reflector (PAR) bulb. Such bulbs closely resemble traditional, screw-in type pool fixtures with an Edison base. Transitioning from incandescent pool bulbs to PAR LED RGB bulbs is as simple as removing the old unit and replacing it with the new one (no re-wiring required). [...]

01/09/17 LED Landscape Lighting 101

The requirements of landscape lighting often raises several issues with performance, maintenance and costs. This is because the lights serve numerous applications and purposes around the installed location. For example, they are used for security and guidance after sunset. Furthermore, the fixtures may also be utilized to boost aesthetics for statues and pathways. [...]

08/16/16 How Much Light is Enough Light

Lighting choices vary, depending on the needs of the applicable location and personal preferences of individuals in the area. A “one size fits all” solution is rarely available when determining the lighting requirements of multiple environments. For example, lighting configurations for an office may differ, compared to a packaging warehouse. Even if the two facilities were the same size, the type of work being carried out in the buildings dictate the properties or characteristics [...]

02/16/16 Lumen vs Foot-Candles – Which Is More Accurate for Measuring Illumination?

When a customer is looking for lights, the most common question posed is “how bright is this light?” As lighting technology improves, the standard measurements of illumination aren’t always the most accurate in calculating a light’s output. Understanding how each rating is determined will help you choose the best fixture for an application. [...]

02/15/16 Benefits of LED Light Towers to Metal Halide Light Towers

This report covers the advantages of light emitting diode (LED) light towers over metal halide light towers. In particular, the paper expounds on a range of competitive criteria, including energy-saving properties, power usage benefits, heat dissipation and long-term maintenance. The insights found in the report are applicable to business owners, engineers and lighting specialists. [...]

01/28/14 The Future of Lighting: No More Lamp Servicing or Maintenance?

While on the one hand we are seeing a shift towards an integrated LED lamp/fixture modality, there does exist the potential for a “modular” approach to LED manufacture. This sounds contradictory, but let us explain in a little more detail. While an integrated LED/fixture design is indeed the probable route of future lighting design, the actual totality of an LED based luminaire is based on a combination of several distinct parts or “modules”. LEDs themselves are only represented by the “chip”; t [...]

12/19/13 Incandescent Bulb Phase Out Not a Light Bulb Ban

First and foremost, it needs to be reiterated that the phase out of incandescent light bulbs is not a ban. Although there is ample information available regarding the new efficiency standards lighting technology must meet in order to comply with federal and international legislation, there are still many who characterize the discontinuation of the incandescent bulb as a ban. The reality is that lighting manufacturers are free to produce incandescent bulbs of any wattage they desire and sell them [...]
