Infrared Filters, Covert Covers, and Blackout IR Lenses

Infrared filters, infrared covers and covert infrared lens covers.

Infrared filter covers (blackout covers) are used to block the emission of visible light.  Generally, these covert infrared blackout covers are used to avoid detections.  Night vision equipment, including goggles, cameras and binoculars are needed to see the energy transmitted through these lenses.  Generally, infrared filters will block the transmission of light energy below 850nm.

Larson Electronics (www.larsonelectronics.com) manufactures various covert infrared lens covers for its lighting products.

02/01/17Measuring IR Light and Near-IR Light

Infrared (IR) light emits a broad range of non-visible wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum. Applications for infrared, including near-infrared, are defined by the respective IR bands during output. For example, LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) equipment uses 1,000 nm and 1,550 nm IR bands while surveying an area. In the military sector, 850 nm, 1,060 nm and 1,500 nm (and up) are used in IR laser range detection systems. [...]

01/23/17LED Lighting and Security Cameras Around the House

Security cameras require light in order to produce clear images during surveillance. This can be a serious problem for crimes that occur at night. In most cases, background lighting from the street or adjacent room is not enough to support such systems; and the absence of sunlight greatly reduces the camera’s efficiency under low light conditions. [...]

10/25/11Non Military Infrared Light Applications and Uses

What makes light in specific regions of the infrared end of the spectrum useful is that while it is absorbed or reflected off of objects just like visible light, it is a single narrow band of electromagnetic radiation rather than a blend of several. Normal visible light is a blend of several shorter electromagnetic wavelengths (colors) that is easily reflected by objects. Each wavelength, or color, is absorbed and reflected a little differently than the next according to the physical properties [...]

11/17/10Spotlights and Night Vision: Scout and Confirm

Hunting at night is no easy task. Regulations and ordinances can sometimes be heavily set against anyone wishing to hunt at night. Spotlights and night vision devices although gaining some leeway as far as nuisance and non game animals are concerned are still heavily prohibited for use when hunting many of the more popular game animals. [...]

11/17/10Augmenting Hunting NVDs with Infrared

In the past, hunting was traditionally reserved for daylight hours when hunters could be reasonably assured of finding their quarry without too much worry about visibility. With the setting of the sun though usually came an end to the hunt. Modern technology, however, has turned this conventional wisdom on its head and now many hunters are finding a whole new aspect of hunting that was once closed to them. [...]
