LED Track Lighting Applications at Home
LED track lighting systems, which consists of several compact LED light heads secured on a single track, are reliable sources of illumination. Previously, this type of LED light was only found in commercial spaces, such as offices, studios and lobbies. However, these days the directional fixtures can be installed inside homes and may serve as task lighting, sources of general illumination and more.
Setup and Mounting
The track is an important component of the lighting system, as it holds the LED fixtures and keeps the wiring organized. There are three main types of tracks for this light: monorail, cable and basic. The type of track selected will dictate how the lamp is mounted on the ceiling or wall. Most tracks are directly mounted on the surface, while a monorail system enables the track to hang slightly lower from the ceiling for flexibility.
On the other hand, a cable system is designed for rooms with high ceilings. This allows the track to hang suspended, as it is supported by cables attached to the ceiling. A cable system is recommended for quick and simple installations, especially for ceiling surfaces that are not suitable for basic or monorail mounting. For example, an uneven ceiling surface may not cater to the full length of the track and would need to be mounted in a hanging configuration.
Versatile LED Lamp Configurations
LED track lights are extremely versatile. Homeowners can choose from different beam configurations, light beam colors, lighting reflectors, angles and quantity of lamps on the track. These choices can be carefully maximized to cater to the illuminative requirements of the space.
LED track lighting systems typically incorporate spotlights, which offers a tight beam during use. For general illumination, a floodlight beam configuration could be more effective and should be applied when preventing the creation of unwanted glare.
