Solar Powered 5W LED Light - 9 Hour Run Time - 35' X 35' Illuminated Area - Dim and High Modes
Part # SPLED-5 Price:
The Larson Electronics SPLED-5 Solar Powered LED Light is an ideal lighting solution for remote areas and standalone applications where connection to external power is either impractical or unavailable.
This fully automatic LED light is powered by a 6,000mA capacity 14.8 volt LiPoly battery that is recharged by a 12 watt solar panel. There are two operating modes, high and low, with operation controlled by a motion sensor. This sensor switches the light to low output mode when there is no movement detected and high output mode when movement is detected. Light output comes from a 5 watt LED lamp that produces 120 lumens in low mode and 500 lumens in high mode. The light is automatically switched on when ambient light levels drop below 30 lux, typically at sunset.
The light runs for 9 hours in low mode and 5 hours in high mode when the battery is fully charged. The lithium ion battery pack is contained within the solar panel, not the light. Charging time for the LiPoly battery is 5 hours when exposed to direct sunlight. As with all solar powered equipment, charging time is affected by the amount of available ambient light. When ambient light levels drop below a certain level, such as on cloudy days, the unit will not recharge. The light produced by the SPELD-5 will cover an area 35’L x 35’W when mounted 12 feet from the ground. Mounting options include the ability to attach the fixture to flat surfaces such as walls or round/square pole mounting such as on flagpoles or structure supports.
Larson Electronics has further upgraded the options available with this light. A two foot extension cord connects the solar panel to the LED light, allowing the light to be mounted separately from the panel. This means the solar panel can be mounted in direct sunlight while the light is mounted in a workspace. The cord between the light and panel ends in deutche connectors, allowing an optional longer extension cord to be attached, increasing the distance the light can be installed from the panel. Optional longer extension cords are available at additional cost. Larson Electronics can also configure this light for special requirements including different lights and larger batteries.
Suggested uses for this light include both commercial and industrial applications as well as consumer based installations. This light is ideal for boat docks, remote locations that rely on batteries for power, exterior outbuilding lighting, hunting cabins, parking areas, sign or entryway illumination, driveway lighting and anywhere a standalone lighting solution is needed.

Looking at Outdoor Security Lighting Basics
In order to effectively utilize security lighting it is very important to remember that it is not so much the fact that an area is illuminated that makes it effective, but that the area can first actually benefit from illumination, and second that this illumination is properly chosen and installed. Security lighting when improperly installed or used in areas where it will not facilitate the observation of the illuminated area can actually increase the problems associated with criminal activity. The Effect of Lighting on Workplace Productivity
When considering a lighting upgrade, it is often best to bring in a lighting consultant who can assess your current systems and make suggestions for improvement. It is not enough to just upgrade exisiting fixtures, and a big part of improving lighting is not only installing more efficient fixtures, but utilizing the light they produce more efficiently. [...]
LED Lighting and New Energy Policies Provide Opportunity for Savings and Increased Profit
Such examples are widespread and continue to grow in number as more business planners and lighting designers move to embrace LED lighting technology. Making the switch even more attractive are federal and state incentive programs that provide tax breaks, rebates, and assistance for businesses that wish to switch to energy efficient LED lighting. The Basics of Ingress Protection Ratings and What They Mean
Some important considerations to keep in mind are that although an item may be rated as ”IP68”, this does not automatically infer the item can be safely operated at any depth for any period of time without failure. For IP68 ratings, manufacturers choose the specified depth which must be beyond 1 meter at which the enclosure will protect against the ingress of water. Normally, as with industrial lighting equipment or marine lighting intended to be operated for extended periods beyond depths of 1 [...]
LED Advances and World Acceptance
All over globe, LEDs are popping up everywhere. You can now find LEDs in traffic signals, parking lot lamps, shopping centers, ships and aircraft and industrial manufacturing facilities just to name a few of the most popular applications. In cities and states across the US, reports are appearing in the media that back up the energy efficiency potential of LEDs, with many companies and local governments reporting reductions in energy consumption of up to 70% in applications where a full [...]

Infrared Light and CCD Based Digital Cameras
When most of us think of night vision devices we usually picture the elaborate electronic headgear or special cameras used by military personnel. We usually assume the technology is complicated and the price exorbitant and so we also assume that attractive as being able to see in the dark may be, its beyond the realm of us mere mortals. [...]
Solar Power + LEDs = Ultra Efficiency
Conventional lighting no matter how it is produced relies on a steady supply of electrical energy to operate. Everything from the security lights in parking lots to the simple walkway lighting of a commercial building rely on a connection with the local power grid to provide needed illumination. While this lighting is highly effective and adds a great deal of convenience to businesses and industries that operate past daylight hours, it is also expensive and not always practical. [...]
