Since 1973 Larson Electronics has manufactured industrial lighting and power distribution products. On LarsonElectronics.com we offer a wide range of products including explosion proof lighting, portable hazardous location lighting, high powered LED lights, hand held 12/24 Volt lighting, light towers and portable power distribution panels with large KVA transformers. Our products are used by manufacturing facilities, refineries, military bases, paint spray booths, oilfield operations, shipyards and food processing plants around the world. Larson Electronics continues to develop custom solutions while maintaining an extensive inventory of established products for immediate shipping. Finally, we continue to develop our knowledge base of lighting articles to help our customers make the best illumination and power distribution choices. We make every effort to be ‘easy to do business with’, from our 7AM to 7PM CT customer phone support, to fast turn-around on quotes, to expedited order shipping up until 6PM CT. Nothing is perfect, but thousands of positive customer reviews indicate that we are on the right track.
While explosion proof lighting typically refers to UL/ETL listed lights that are Class 1 Division 1 or Class 2 Division 1, where the gases and dusts are always present, Larson Electronics also offers a wide range of Class 1 Division 2 or Class 2 Division 2 lights, which are generally considered hazardous location lighting. Hazardous location lighting is used in areas where the volatile gases and dusts are present only in unusual circumstances (i.e. something bad happens). We offer these lights in fluorescent, metal halide and LED. We offer surface mount configurations for rig light applications, oil change pits, chemical storage areas and the majority of the work areas in most refineries and manufacturing facilities. Larson also offers an extensive selection of portable Class 1 Division 2 lighting for temporary applications.
Paint Spray Booth Lighting
Paint Spray booth lighting is another areas where we have a deep product selection for permanent and portable applications. A paint spray booth light listing from UL/ETL is a separate test that the lab does on a light that is already certified for hazardous areas. Typically, the lab will cover the light fixture in paint and then take temperature tests to ensure the light doesn't cause the paint fumes to combust. In addition to 2, 4 and 8-lamp fluorescent paint booth lights, we also offer LED versions of the same fixtures so customers can get the longevity, durability and efficiency associated with LED paint booth lights. For the aerospace and vehicle manufacturing industry we fabricate several wheeled cart lighting solutions that can be moved beside or underneath different assemblies during paint or powder spray applications.
Of course, the predecessor to painting is blasting. We continue to develop our line of blasting lights, with choices that include blast gun, pedestal and magnetic mount options. We incorporate IP-67 rated lights, explosion proof lights and Class 1 Division 2 light heads so that we have complete line of blast lighting to meet the needs of the blasting operator. The lights can be powered via inline transformer, replaceable batteries or rechargeable batteries. All the lights include replaceable lenses. We blast and paint on premise, so we use our own products and have a good understanding of how much light operators need to do their job.
Portable Power Distribution/Substations
In many cases, when contractors use portable lighting, they also need portable power distribution as well. Our cart and skid based power distribution systems enable operators to take 3-phase power from the grid or generator and break it down into the voltages they need to run equipment and lighting via various size KVA transformers. Once the project is complete, they can move the power distribution panel system to another area or the next job and repeat the process. While our MGL25-208Y-4X120-1X480-30A continues to be very popular, most of our growth in this area tends to be in the higher 45, 75, 150, 250 KVA transformer systems with custom outlet configurations. The MGS-480.2X30A-45K-2X240-10X120, for example, is the most common application with a 3-phase welding panel one side and a single phase 120/240 panel on the other side for lighting and tools.
Outdoor Rated Lighting
As we move from inside to the outside of our customer's facility, we provide a wide range of outdoor rated lighting for the premise and vehicles. For the premise, our unique indoor/outdoor rated LED Par 38 bulbs, LED wall packs, LED flood lights and industry leading 28-watt LED tubes are optimal replacements for their incandescent and fluorescent counterparts for area lighting.
Security and Inspection Lighting
Moving to security, inspection and repair vehicles, we offer high powered, low voltage LED lighting, remote controlled lights (Golights) and a family of battery operated strobes and vehicle powered beacons. When it comes to utility vehicles for cable, telephone and electric utilities, our magnetic, handheld lighting is just the beginning. Operators can use Larson Electronics’ remote controlled lighting and post mount spotlights to find the line break; and use our range of magnetically and permanently mounted LED strobe style beacons to keep traffic at bay. With our battery powered scene lights and LED truck work area lights they can complete their work safely and efficiently.
Metal Halide and LED Light Towers
When the job extends beyond the first responder and a small scene, operators can illuminate large work areas with Larson Electronics' LED light towers or metal halide light towers. Fabricators can incorporate our crank-up or pneumatic light masts into their own trailer configurations to light up a fracking pad, drill site or work site. As the only light tower manufacturer that will produce and sell our masts separately to customer specifications, we can help other manufacturers produce their specialty applications without having to figure out how to build the mast. Our latest innovations in this area include our solar powered LED light towers.
Handheld Hunting Lights
Finally, when it is time to break free from the workplace, operators can use Larson Electronics' series of handheld hunting lights in the great outdoors, knowing that they will get the same quality and support for their recreational lights as they do from their Larson Electronics' work lights.
Our Commitment to Service Excellence
At Larson Electronics, we define customer service in five ways. We answer phones with live people, know our products, turn quotes around quickly, ship orders quickly and produce custom configurations. While most companies look to standardize and say 'no' to custom requests, we like the challenge of making new lighting configurations. Like any company, we occasionally have supply chain issues, but we keep high inventory levels so we can ship most orders quickly. Contact 1-800-369-6671 or sales@LarsonElectronics.com with RFQs, orders or issues. From a quality perspective, not only do we test the products during the production process, but we also conduct one last test by energizing all the lighting and power distribution products while packing them for shipping. While there is always room for improvement, the nearly 8,000 positive customer reviews on our site from the last year are an indication that our customer service strategy is working.
In order to support the continued development of new products for customers, we built a light lab internally, equipped with a near field goniophotometer and a spectrometer. This enables us to not only produce IES files but test light output and Kelvin color. This lab is also used for measuring our expansive line of infrared and ultraviolet lights that are popular with inspection, non-destructive testing and curing in the manufacturing space. We use AGi32 and can incorporate this lab data to produce lighting layouts for our customers, while making available Solidworks and AutoCAD files for engineers that need 3D models of the lighting layouts and the lights themselves.
Our overall objective is to be easy to do business with and we hope that your experience with us reflects that goal.

When illuminating a work area, sporting complex, roadway, or any populated area, safety and reliability are of the utmost importance. Without proper illumination, risk for accidents and injury is increased. Power outages, mechanical or equipment failure, or acts of nature can introduce unwanted hazards into the environment. Advances in LED technology have solutions that address these safety issues. [...]
In order for a spray booth to be truly effective however, it must have the correct lighting. While at first glance booth lighting might not seem like such an involved subject, a closer look at just what constitutes effective spray booth light reveals a different and more complex appearance. Booth lighting is critical because it directly affects the ability of the operator to apply a quality finish. Good lighting allows an operator to easily note variations in finish color as well as finish text [...]
While on the one hand we are seeing a shift towards an integrated LED lamp/fixture modality, there does exist the potential for a “modular” approach to LED manufacture. This sounds contradictory, but let us explain in a little more detail. While an integrated LED/fixture design is indeed the probable route of future lighting design, the actual totality of an LED based luminaire is based on a combination of several distinct parts or “modules”. LEDs themselves are only represented by the “chip”; t [...]
This means we can hang our LED fixture over our target surface, and get nearly all of the initial 1,000 lumens directed downwards towards it without the need for a reflector or the losses than come with the use of one. (Fig C) So, we could in effect actually use an LED fixture producing 600 lumens and using only 6 watts, to direct the same amount of light to our target as a 10 watt metal halide producing 1,000 lumens.
LEDs are a solid state form of lighting that demonstrates a radical departure from the way we usually produce illumination. As a result, there have been new challenges developers and manufacturers have had to overcome before LEDs could be considered a viable lighting technology. LEDs are solid state in design, and rather than produce light through the process of incandescence, (heating a wire until it glows and radiates light), produce light through a process called electroluminescence. [...]
While LEDs are still making inroads into high bay applications, fluorescent and HID systems already have a proven track record of effectiveness, providing an extra degree of security for those as yet unprepared to make the jump to solid state lighting. Follow along as we look at some of the improvements traditional high bay systems have undergone and how this affects their overall performance. [...]
